This is a book of poetry. As defined, poetry is literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. I will be honest, poetry for me is either relatable or not depending upon the topic. My top 4 pieces in Diary of a Young Black were; Why, Courage, Warriors of Knowledge and Apple Of My Eye.
Reading work from a fellow black author is enlightening because it gives the reader a glimpse of the writers thoughts, experiences or encounters that may not be their own but possibly a circumstance belonging to someone dear to them.
Would I suggest this read to the next? I most certainly would. The author, Lora has more work on the way and I plan on following her journey as a published writer.
