This book could really be summed up as STRAIGHT candor! I have always been a fan of Jenifer (with one N) Lewis and her "Momma" roles. However, reading Mother of Black Hollywood... allows us to see the acting mother of Tupac, the acting aunt of Fresh Prince (just to name drop a couple) with her mask off in such a vulnerable but yet very open space.
This memoir is a poster fact that claiming and speaking your success into existence is so necessary! On the flip side, being humble is just as important. If you are a striving artist, actor, actress, writer or possess any other talent... reading Jenny's narrative will put a perspective on what it's like to walk in your own truth with matters of ups, downs and comparing yourself to others. Hence, one can not look at their neighbor and understand their success without knowing their process, their let downs, self-doubt and/or vices for that matter.
I am literally LOL... at this current thought. It's a bit of Jenifer Lewis in all of us. I will not get into great detail on my personal similarity but I will say ABANDONMENT is real! Also, finding a way to cope with it is a act in itself. Yet, addressing it gets better with time once you are real with yourself.
LOOK, Dr. Jenifer MothaFuckin's Lewis... well done!!
